For over a century, Japan’s Awaji Island has been known for its match and incense-making traditions. Its unique climate, shaped by the westerly winds that sweep across the island, creates ideal conditions for drying incense. Locally grown herbs, cultivated using traditional methods, provide the foundation for its distinctive Japanese fragrances.

In 2011, after three years of research and development, two long-established Japanese manufacturers, Kobe Match Co., Ltd. and Daihatsu Co., Ltd., came together to create hibi, an award-winning incense match that brings these traditions into a simple, modern form.

Meaning “day to day” in Japanese, hibi was designed to make enjoying incense an easy part of everyday life. Light a stick alongside your morning coffee or afternoon tea, and take a moment to relax, refresh, and reset.
